Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford has been an American actor, dancer and performer since the beginning of the 1990s. Early Broadway parts include Wicked Legally Blonde & Hair. As the character Essie In You Can't Take It With You she received the Tony Award. Annaleigh Ashford Tony Award winner actor has worked with a variety of acclaimed actors and directors for stage productions and on television. The award-winning actress continues her career through her forthcoming projects. Ashford will be next in the role of Kumail Nanjiani in the Hulu limited series Welcome to Chippendales from creator Robert Siegel premiering on November 22. Ashford is currently working on Searchlight Pictures' horror thriller Dust with Sarah Paulson, Ebon Moss Bachrach and Ebon Mosch Bachrach. It's also available as an Hulu Original on Disney DTC. In March of 2023 Ashford returns to Broadway and star opposite Josh Groban in the revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Thomas Kail (director) and Jeffrey Seller (producer), the same duo who created Hamilton directed the musical. Ashford's most recent part was that of Paula Jones on Ryan Murphy FX's American Crime Story Impeachment. It is based upon the National scandal that featured Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky, and Linda Tripp. The two-season run she had on the CBS comedy B Positive was her first significant role. The show was created by Chuck Lorre with Marco Pennette. It featured Linda lavin as well as Hector Elizondo and Ben Vereen. Ashford is no stranger to Broadway. Her portrayal of Essie on You Can't Take It with You won her the Tony Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. Some other Broadway performances for Ashford include Sunday in the Park, with George Wicked legally Blonde, and the role of Lauren as Lauren in Kinky Boots. For this performance she received an Tony Award nomination. Ashford splits her life between Los Angeles & New York. She was born in Denver & raised there.
